The Opportunity: General Manager

Banyen is Canada's west coast spiritual and healing resource centre, with a mission to energize and embody transformational learning--as a catalyst for a more loving, sustainable world. Founded in 1970, Banyen is our country's most comprehensive Metaphysical and Body-Mind-Spirit bookstore, and also offers a diverse range of educational events, programs and products to inspire and enlighten us all.
Founder and still active owner Kolin Lymworth is seeking a new General Manager for the future, following the retirement from her position by Tanis Phillips, after 10 years in the role. The new GM will guide Banyen into the future, strengthening its heartful educational service, stewarding the nuts & bolts of the business, and collaboratively leading the synergies of Banyen's staff of 25+. A current strategic focus is to build upon the 46 years of Banyen's service, through optimizing the capability and creativity of our team, and through exploring new ways for Banyen to help community "connect around the best we humans know how to live."
With a deep alignment with Banyen's mission and the heart and smarts needed to grow Banyen into its next era, the General Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the business:
Operations, Human Resources, Finances, Inventory Control, Strategic Planning and Development.
- The General Manager will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Qualified and recognized Accounting Skills
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Strong creative thinking and problem solving skills
- Strong team leadership skills, cultivating an inclusive, creative team work environment
