“Go out in the woods. Go out.
If you don’t go out in the woods,
nothing will ever happen and your life
will never begin”.
~ Dr. CP Estes, Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype
It’s official! I have found the perfect home for my upcoming workshop, “The Descent of the Goddess: Finding Our Intuitive Path Through the Underworld.” http://www.urbanpriestess.ca/workshopsgatherings.html
It will be held at Sacred Mountain Lavender Farm, on October 29th and 30th, here on the magical south end of Salt Spring Island. https://sacredmountainlavender.com
I couldn’t ask for a more beautiful, private, and energetic space to hold this workshop. Sacred Mountain Lavender Farm is tucked away on iconic Mount Tuam, an area which the First Peoples of Salt Spring have long considered to be an area of immense spiritual power. I am really looking forward to this event, and I would love it if you would join me. For you, my dear Banyen readers, I am offering both days for $95 if you register before Autumn Equinox. After September 22nd, it will be $125. You really don’t want to miss this one. It will be cathartic. It will be potent. It will be nourishing. And, it will definitely be transformative. What better thing to do the weekend before Halloween (Samhain) than to gather with a group of like-minded wild women in sacred ceremony?
To register, or if you have any questions, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
September opens with a powerfully charged New Moon in Virgo and a Solar Eclipse. And, Mercury just stationed retrograde on the 30th is also in Virgo. New Moons are always a good time to begin anew. To plant fresh seeds in fertile ground in an area of our life highlighted by our chart. With Mercury backtracking, you can still begin. But begin slow. Take your time, and make sure you journey down deep to feel out what steps to take next. This is a good time to give yourself permission for reflection. To exhale and drop down into yourself to connect with your own deeper guidance. This retrograde is a reminder that we don’t always need to try to control everything, that things don’t always have to be “perfect”, whatever that means. We can be as conscious and accountable as we can be, and the rest, as they say, is up to the Universe. Or God. Or Goddess.
Virgo is about organization and purification, and is especially concerned with things of the body and health. Maybe its time to put a little more thought into this vehicle that transports your soul around. Where can you tune things up? Streamline? Get into a new lifestyle that supports you? Virgo is the “practical priestess”: How can you serve in a real world, hands on way? How can you incorporate simple daily ritual so that it becomes a nourishing and tuned in way to connect, both to your self and community? The goddess Hestia of the Greek pantheon embodies the Virgo archetype. Hestia, the goddess of the hearth, the flame in the deepest heart of home and temple, she who needs solitude to create sacred space. She is a “virgin goddess”, meaning she is whole unto herself, needing no one else to complete her. In real world terms, this means having an unshakable sense of self, and being discerning in who gets to share your time and energy. It means gentle but firm boundaries, and being true to yourself. Ponder these associations, because this eclipse will be connected to these themes.
Eclipses bring change, and often seem to close one door, while simultaneously opening another. Whatever area of your chart an eclipse takes place will show you where change or insight can occur. Solar eclipses are also often connected to high profile or significant events in the outer world. Watch the days around the eclipse, and pay attention to any messages or meetings that have a “fated’ feel to them. This eclipse is squared by Saturn in Sagittarius and opposed by Neptune in Pisces, which may lend both a serious and confusing energy into the mix. Go slow, hold your ground, but be flexible and compassionate.
Jupiter enters Libra on September 9th, where it will stay until October 2017. Relationships, connections and diplomacy take center stage. Growth and opportunity associated with Libra matters begin to flourish: love, partnership, the Arts, and hopefully movement toward equality and fair play on the world stage. Saturn makes its final square to Neptune on September 10th, an aspect that has coincided with blind faith, self righteousness, and blurred ideals. It exacted first on November 26th, 2015, and then again on June 17th this year. The days around those dates brought these issues to a crux in the collective: the Paris bombings on November 13th, and Orlando on June 12th. Saturn in Sagittarius shows us where adherence to faith without critical thinking is dangerous, and Neptune’s shadow is associated with the archetype of the Martyr. Like any aspect, there is always the potential for it to operate from a higher level of consciousness. What would it look like for Saturn and Neptune to work together in a positive way? Inspired leadership. Grounded spirituality. Responsible creation.
The Full Moon occurs at 24 degrees Pisces on September 16th at 12:05 pm (PDT). It is also a Lunar Eclipse, and the annual “Harvest Moon”. A full Pisces Moon is dreamy, bathing us in magic, mystery and the numinous. This particular Moon is conjunct the Wounded Healer, Chiron, suggesting that there is deep healing potential to tap into if we choose. A square to Mars could be triggering and make this day edgy, and there might be a dash of foggy confusion thrown into the mix, so keep your feet, and if you are imbibing, be mindful. Make sure you have a reliable ride home. This energy can sweep us up into a delicious trance state, which is a welcome visit from the Muse for artists of all kinds. Meditation, deep soul work, and divination are all blessed with a parting of the veil, and a glimpse into the Otherworld. This is the Moon of the High Priestess, and is connected to Persephone, Tara, and the compassionate embrace of Kwan Yin. Mercury stations direct on the 21st, giving us a green light, and prompting increased clarity of direction.
The Sun enters Libra on September 22nd, at 7:22 am, which marks the autumn equinox in the northern hemisphere. Look to see where Libra is in your chart to find out where you will be experiencing this shift. For Sun sign Libras, happy birthday! Libra is a Cardinal Air sign, meaning that it is a sign that coincides with an astronomical turning point, the beginning of a new season. Libra resonates with the objective intellectual and social element of Air. Libra is connected with relationships: whether they be between lovers, or between line and color. Many Librans are born with natural artistic talent, and an eye for proportion and detail. This eye for relationship can be found in the writer, artist, designer, or lover.
Venus enters Scorpio on the 23rd, bringing a level of depth to our interactions with others. We are not content to skim the surface. We are feeling territorial, passionate, strategic, focused and aroused. Pluto stationing direct on the 26th underlines this. We can get to the bottom of something. We may cover similar ground that we did in June and July, perhaps connecting the dots, or seeing the next step.
Mars enters Capricorn on September 27th. In the next few weeks we are more willing to put in the work and determination to see something important through. We’re in a serious mood to get the job done, and stay the course. We’re prepared to show up, and expect others to do the same. This is a push it through, make it happen kind of energy, just what we need after Mercury’s sojourn through the Underworld.
The New Moon in Libra wraps up the month of September on a sweet note, and gifts us with another chance to reboot a certain area of our lives. Now is the time to set intentions for the next six months on opening our hearts, and healing our most intimate relationships. For singles, this is the perfect time to write a love letter to the universe and ask for what you want in a partner. This is also a potent catalyst for breakthroughs for artists, writers, dancers, musicians and designers.
