How do a teacher of yoga and buddhism and an ayurvedic practitioner prepare for parenting? How do they understand themselves as men, and fathers? Matthew Remski ~ Abuse, Cult Dynamics, and Healing in Yoga and Beyond

11:30am to 1:00pm
Banyen Books & Sound
3608 West 4th Ave.
Join Matthew Remski for a launch and discussion of his forthcoming book Practice and All is Coming: Abuse, Cult Dynamics, and Healing in Yoga and Beyond. There will be opportunities for conversation and dialogue.
How do we co-create safer yoga and spiritual communities? Through dogged investigative work, careful listening to survivor stories of assault and abuse, and close analysis of the cultic mechanisms at play in the sphere of Pattabhi Jois’s Ashtanga community, Matthew Remski’s Practice and All Is Coming offers a sober view into a collective and intergenerational trauma. It also offers a clear pathway forward into enhanced critical thinking, student empowerment, self-and-other care, and community resilience. Concluding with practical tools for a world rocked by abuse revelations, Practice and All Is Coming opens a window on the possibility of healing — and even re-enchantment.
Matthew Remski is a yoga teacher, industry consultant, and author of nine previous books, including reads of Yoga: A Remix of Patanjali’s Sutras, with commentary and reverie. As the survivor of two cults, his work has been pivotal in illuminating the shadows of globalized yoga and Buddhism, and showing that disillusionment and critical inquiry can be gateways to mature spirituality. He facilitates modules in philosophy, history, culture and community health in yoga teacher training programmes internationally. He lives in Toronto with his partner and their two children. matthewremski.com
