Banyen's Description:

This reissue of the original 2 CD edition dedicated “to all who journey into the light of their deepest longing, and all who help them on their way,” Graceful Passages consists of a lovely book containing heartfelt messages and prayers for those facing life-threatening illness, preparing for dying, or grieving the loss of a loved one, plus two CDs: one where these messages are spoken (over the music) by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, Ram Dass, Thich Nhat Hanh, Sam Keen, Arun Gandhi, and other mentors and guides, and a second CD, 73 minutes of the music only—by Gary Malkin. This CD has been released separately as Unspeakable Grace, which aptly describes this music. The whole makes a tasteful and multi-purpose gift for those situations where we know the end of life is near.

The CDs consists of spoken word (drawn from a broad spectrum of world spiritual traditions) and music blended to support and ease our transitions. The music is softening, opening, and tenderly soaring. The potency and emotional content of the verbal messages are such that one might better listen to one or two pieces at a time, rather than to the entire CD in one sitting.

The words and music combine to support a powerful release of feelings: grief, love, gratitude. Listening with a loved one, or in a group which allows for the expression of feelings, is an effective and useful complement to listening by oneself. Many have discovered that listening with others nourishes an intimacy that opens into safely and deeply communicating feelings and thoughts about living and dying.

These journeys in words and music can serve as exploratory visits to the edge of that shore we call death… as a contemplative practice in the art of trusting, relaxing, and letting go. The themes of letting go, closure, expressing love, forgiveness, appreciation of life, and the continuity of spirit are reviewed from many perspectives and faith traditions.
